1. Create a polygon cylinder.
2. Change Subdivision Height to 3.
3. Look at the cylinder in the front view and change it to face mode.
4. Select the middle part and delete it. The separate two cylinders are still combined. You may change it to Object Mode and try to move them.
5. Select them and select Mesh > Separate. One cylinder is green and the other is pink. They are separated.

Combine
1. Create a polygon cube and duplicate it.
2. Select the above two polygons.
3. Select Mesh > Combine.
4. Try to move the polygons combined. They will move together.
5. Select the two polygons again.
6. To separate them, select Mesh > Separate. This time they are two independent polygons.
Create a polygon tool
1. Select Mesh > Create Polygon Tool.
2. Click the left mouse button to place the first point(or vertex) in the front view.
Maya places vertices on the ground place unless you snap them to existing geometry.
i just officially bought Maya 2008 so expect some very noob questions.
3. Click to place the next vertex. Maya creates an edge between the first point and the last point you placed.
4. Place the third vertex. A dashed edge connects the three vertices.
5. Place the fourth vertex. A dashed edge connects the four vertices again.
6. To close the polygon, place the last vertex. A dashed edge connects the five vertices again.
7. To complete the new polygon, press Enter.
It cannot form a plane this time.
Press Delete to delete the last point you placed.
Press y to start a new polygon.
To switch to editing vertices, press Insert.

To add a connected polygon to an existing mesh
1. Select the polygon you want to append to.
2. Select Edit > Append to Polygon Tool.
The border edges highlight and appear thicker.
3. Click the border edge you want to append to.
The edge you select is the first edge of the new face. Arrows indicate the edge direction.
4. Click to place a vertex for the new polygon. You can also click another border edge to use it in
the new polygon.

Exit on Completion: This option interacts with Interactive Creation. When Exit on Completion is turned on, you must select a primitive type again in order to create another primitive. When this option is turned off, you can interactively create multiple primitives of the same type, until you select another tool.

8.5 Applying a character style
1. Double-click page 1 in the Pages panel to center the page in your document window.
2. Using the Type tool, select the words "Expedition Tea Company."
3. In the Character Styles panel, click once on the Company style to apply it to this text. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+8 to apply the Company style.
4. Using the same method as above, apply the Company style to the words "Expedition Tea Company," which appear twice near the bottom of page 3.
5. Choose File > Save.

8.4 Creating a character style
1. With 08_Working.indd open, double-click page 1 in the Pages panel to center the page in the document window.
2. Open the Character styles panel.
3. Using the Type tool, select the words "Expedition Tea Company™" in the first column of page 1.
4. In the Control panel, click Character Formatting Controls and select Small Caps.
5. Choose New Character Style from the Character Styles panel menu.
6. Type Company in the Style Name box at the top of the dialog box.
7. Leave the Based On setting at the default, [None].
8. Click in the Shortcut box, hold down Ctrl and press 8 on the numeric keypad of the keyboard.
9. Select Apply Style To Selection to apply this new style to the text you just formatted.
10. Click OK to close the New Character Style dialog box.
11. Choose File > Save.

8.3 Applying a paragraph style
1. In the Pages panel, double-click page 1 to center it in the document window.
2. Using the Type tool, click to place an insertion point in "Tea Gift Collections."
3. Click once on the Head2 style in the Paragraph Styles panel to apply the style to the text.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to apply the Head2 style to "Teapots and Tea Accessories" in the second column.
5. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to apply the Head2 style to "Premium Loose Leaf Tea Selections" at the top of page 2 and "About Tea and Training" at the top of page 3.
6. Choose File > Save.
8.2 Creating a paragraph style
1. With 08_Working.indd open, double-click page 1 in the Pages panel to center the page in the document window.
2. Using the Type tool, drag to select the "Loose Leaf Teas" headline.
3. In the Control panel, click Character Formatting Controls, and specify the following:
Font: Adobe Caslon Pro.
Style: Semibold.
Size: 18pt.
4. And then click Paragraph Formatting Control, and increase the Space Before to 0p3.
5. Open the Paragraph Styles panel.
6. In the Paragraph Styles panel, creates a new paragraph style by choosing New Paragraph Style from the panel menu.
7. In the Style Name box at the top of the dialog box, type Head2 to name this style as the second largest headline.
Should we select Body Text from Based On menu?
8. Select Body Text from the Next Style menu, because this is the style used for the text following each Head2 headline.
9. Click in the Shortcut box, hold down Ctrl and press 9 on the numeric keyboard.
10. Select Apply Style To Selection to apply this new style to the text you just formatted.
11. Click OK to close the New Paragraph Style dialog box.
12. Choose File > Save.

7.28 Placing a color-managed Illustrator file into InDesign CS4
1. In InDesign CS4, select the remaining empty frame in the lower-right area of the ad.
2. File > Place and select the 07_Logo.pdf file in the Final folder in the Lesson_07 folder. Make sure that Show Import Options is selected before you click Open.
3. Choose Bounding Box from the Crop To menu in the Place PDF dialog box.
4. Make sure that Transparent Background id selected.
Does it to make any difference to select this or not ?
5. Choose Object > Fitting > Fit Content Proportionally.
6. Choose File > Save.
7.25 Assigning a profile while importing an image
1. In InDesign CS4, choose View > Show Frame Edges.
2. Select the tallest of the three frames in the lower-right area of the spread.
3. Choose File > Place and select the 07_e.pad file in the Lesson_07 folder.
4. Select Show Import Options and click Open.
5. In the Image Import Options dialog box, select the color tab in the middle of the dialog box.
6. For Profile, select U.S. Sheetfed Coated v2 to match the image's original color space.
For Rendering Intent, select Perceptual (images).

7. Choose Object > Fitting > Fit Content Proportionally.
7.24 Updating the image without InDesign CS4
1. In InDesign CS4, with the Selection tool double-click the large chocolate image.
2. Choose Window > Links. Click the Rilink button at the bottom of the Link panel. Locate the 07_d_prof.tif file you just saved in the Lesson_07 folder, and double-click the file.
3. Choose Window > Info. Notice the ICC Profile listed for the image.
7.23 Embedding the profile
1. From Photoshop, choose File > Open and select 07_d.psd in the Lesson_07 folder. Click Open to open the graphic file.
